McKenna's Stance on Celtic

The Ipswich boss referred to the Glasgow giants as "an enormous soccer institution" but emphasized he is "deeply involved" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old took charge of Portman Road in recent years and guided the team to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they won just a handful of victories last season as they were relegated back to the Championship and they presently occupy twelfth place in England's second tier.

"There have been such discussions," the English capital native former Irish youth international said when asked about being on the candidate list.

"This isn't a matter I have given any thought to, or where any part of my concentration is this week.

"I have a special job here at a remarkable club. And we're at a really important phase of the season. Anything outside of that hasn't reached my awareness."

Background and Agreement Details

Reports indicate that McKenna would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his boyhood allegiances.

"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about these. "I don't think everyone has to publicly and announce what they were, but naturally it's a massive sports organization."

The coach signed a new multi-year deal in last year and was questioned about his alleged buyout clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he responded. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't disclose you regardless!

"I approach this job like I will remain Town's coach forever. I understand that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I'll always do my best as while I remain in position."

The Welsh Coach's Position

The former striker played for Celtic on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in 2005, but the ex- Welsh forward is minded to complete the ongoing global tournament campaign, a stance that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from assuming the Glasgow position.

Wales are presently in third place in their World Cup group behind leaders the Red Devils and runners-up North Macedonia.

Victories over the minnows and their rivals in November would secure their position in the qualification play-offs, but they are all but assured of making those, due to a successful Nations League campaign, should they not end up Group J second place.

Given his present stance, Bellamy, whose contract concludes after Euro 2028, would not be available until following the play-offs at the earliest.
