Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for doubts to be raised about his position after another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got plenty of backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to change things and secure a win obviously but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He added, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over familiar failings from his team in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period such as this with results so bad.”
He concluded, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
