Information Available Regarding the Victims of the Bondi Terror Attack

At least 16 people were killed and more than 40 were hurt when attackers shot at a Hanukah celebration at Bondi Beach, an attack Australian police have labeled a act of terrorism.

According to the most recent information, authorities have stated the death toll stands at 16, which includes one of the suspected gunmen. Furthermore, 42 people with injuries were admitted to medical facilities.

The deceased are still awaiting officially identified, but police believe their ages are between 10 and 87 years old.

Here are the victims who have been identified at this time.

Eli Schlanger

Originally from London rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.

Reportedly a father-of-five, he worked as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and friends remembered him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.

“How can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a relative said.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their newest son in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, according to his wife.

She recounted the events leading up to the attack, saying they had been standing together when the shooting began. “He pushed his body up because he wanted to stay near me,” she stated.

The couple were both survivors of the Holocaust, having faced immense hardship in their childhood. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Eastern Europe.

Dan Elkayam

French foreign ministry have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.

Officially, a senior official expressed that France mourned with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This low act is a new, tragic manifestation of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must combat,” the statement continued.

One Child

A child who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital succumbed to her injuries, according to police reports.

One Israeli Citizen

One victim from Israel was a fatality in the incident, as per multiple sources citing the Israeli foreign ministry.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people transported to hospitals, a significant number are still receiving treatment, with several in a critical state. Those hurt comprise two officers who attended the scene.

One of the injured is a bystander who attempted to intervene to tackle one of the gunmen. Called a hero, he sustained gunshot wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Reports indicate he was wounded and underwent treatment in hospital.

In a message, he recounted the incident as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the response of those who rushed to help. He said he felt it was a “miracle” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the attack. He told reporters he heard “a large number” of gunshots.

“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I’ve been shot myself. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
