Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.
The team did not mention Rice by name in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Posted on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
