Alleged Harasser Asked: 'But What If I Could Be Madeleine?'
A woman accused with harassing Kate McCann apparently deposited her a recorded message which asked: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, 24, who court testimony revealed has persistently declared she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial accused with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the court was told phone records and data obtained from phones recorded Ms Wandelt consistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a biological test throughout 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - at the age of three during a family holiday in Portugal - is among the most covered child disappearance cases and continues to be open.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
A separate voicemail, shared in court, recorded Ms Wandelt stating: "I realize I'm heavy and plain like Madeleine was, but I know what I believe."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's voicemail stated: "Suppose there is a small chance that I am she? What happens next? Wouldn't that be crucial for you?"
"I do not need money, I have a living here in Poland, I simply desire to discover," the recording stated.
The tribunal was informed that by means of emails, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, sent early photographs to her phone in a effort to display a similarity to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a early life with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, a data specialist with law enforcement who compiled the data, advised the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also communicated with acquaintances of the McCanns, as per the phone records.
On 9 October 2024, Mr McCann answered a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "the wrong phone."
That day Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's answerphone declaring "I will persist and I plan to establish my claim."
The court learned Mrs Spragg struck up a association online with Ms Wandelt prior to joining her on a visit to the McCanns' home in that area in December 2024.
Call logs demonstrated Mrs Spragg had communicated using WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to say the news outlets had depicted Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she ought to be taken seriously in the months before the visit to the village, the county, in last December.
The court heard communications between the two individuals, in last November, planning endeavoring to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her trash or from cutlery at a dining venue.
"We must make a stand," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the visit to their home, the defendant dispatched a message which said: "We're currently sitting near the McCanns' home with our vehicle dark similar to detectives. I wanted to accomplish this with Peter Andrew I never thought I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The case ongoing.
