A Heap of Anime Updates Dropped During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays offer a plethora of activities much better than catching up on the updates: opening presents, indulging in holiday treats, and harnessing patience techniques to avoid snapping at family members. It is wished you were able to accomplish all these things and more. Nevertheless, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy developments came out during the festive period, and just in case you overlooked any, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (Come 2027)
Truly the most shocking revelation, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to deter the series' continuation. The show will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—a date so remote they could have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which might be a hopeful indicator. However, the key visual for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they could be teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it still retained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now everyone is thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been running for a while, and its sixth season was a further excellent entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will very likely air in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
A further studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Season Two
Shortly after the release of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific premiere date has yet to be revealed.
